It’s time to have a plain conversation about DEI. DEI is an acronym for Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion.
What is DEI
It was a term used to describe methods and strategies to promote
and ensure representation and participation of diverse groups and individuals
in the work place and learning institutions (primarily). However, the illustrious Supreme Court and
its conservative judges felt the need to strike down standards that were in
place to ensure that type of inclusion; as well as greatly reduce the
effectiveness of Civil Rights law and voting rights law.
Many want to fight to get back into a system that clearly wants
to exclude them. I say do the
opposite. A law is a two-edged
sword. And as in the past, we must learn
to take everything and work it for our good.
I’m in favor of building our own resources, workforce, and institutions. This time, doing it the right
way. We have enough lawyers, doctors, allies and resources to keep life moving without pouring all the extra energy in trying to get into institutions and establishments that clearly don’t want us there. I say starve them of our contributions and value.Let’s learn to work together, with like-minded people who
are willing to follow our lead and cooperate in building a bigger, better
societal system from within. It can be
done quickly and in the twinkling of an eye.
How?
I’m glad you asked. It’s going to take more than just a blog post to explain it all but, the general idea is to use what we have—in order to get more.
1. Any thing that we do has to not be done based on ‘race’. So one acceptable alternative is doing things based on membership or club participation. And like any club or membership—we can select who the participants will be even though activities are done to benefit all. My favorite concept is that of a Progressive Union.
2. There are many, many benefits of forming a union that should and can be explored. And any good union needs sergeants of arms to keep order and ensure the safety of members. Unions can also have several chapters; therefore it can remain and share benefits of the same organization.
3. We need to build a network of legal, medical and other professionals willing to help members with any and all matters.
4. Church buildings need to be converted into community centers; instantly becoming great resources for neighborhoods and communities. Absolutely to still be used for church services; but with the added value of possibly being learning centers, offices for professionals, as well as spaces for community stores.
Each location could still maintain a certain amount of independence, being owned by member cooperatives, but still be part of the whole union.
All of the above-mentioned things could happen right now
just by repurposing what is already available and thinking outside of the box. Imagine how many services and businesses can
be supported and started with a little synergy. Shade tree mechanics can become
general service technicians and properly supported, they can become certified
car technicians. People skilled in admin/computer
support can pool together to help independent doctors and lawyers and other
professionals so that everybody can win.
So no, I don’t think we should expend a great deal of energy over what’s been
done. It would absolutely be great if the decisions were reversed. But I also think we have what we need to keep
it moving forward to greater things promised.
Using our talents, skills, and abilities, we can outpace any and everything
that’s been done. We should never forget
that we are inventors, innovators and creative souls. America has always tried to mind our
business, all while trying to exclude us from the same. Make the change. Work together and watch your community grow
for the better around you.
