Social Security and its benefits are often discussed during the political season. I thought it would be interesting to look up information about the program. The links below go to some facts and statistical data concerning the program. Yes, it was borrowed from; but they say the money was paid back—with interest. Personally, I don’t think they should have ever “borrowed” from it in the first place. But things are as they are.
It is also interesting that Republicans are always trying to privatize it. (That, and the US Postal Service.) In my opinion, and the questions for me are: if it wasn’t any good, as they sometimes claim, then why would you try to privatize something that had no value? And, who is asking you to do it?
It irks me when they try
to make a dollar off of everything.
Somethings were meant to be a service for the people for the general
welfare of all. With most things, I am
sure improvements can be made but all in all I think it is a great help to many
Americans. Anyway… see the links and
descriptions below. I hope they are
helpful.
1. The History/Background. This link talks about the history of the
Social Security Trust Fund and investments.
It also talks about issues policy makers have with current practices. Social
Security – Background
2. The Big Borrow. This link covers and discusses the time in 1982 when they (lawmakers) “borrowed”
from the fund; and when they finished paying all the funds back. Borrowing from Social Security3.
Is Social Security Going Broke? This link discusses the issue of Social Security
Fund running out of money. Short answer:
No. But there are extra sentences talking
about the healthiness of the program. In
my opinion, if they didn’t borrow from the program in the first place, and,
stop giving the rich all the tax breaks—it would be fine-- no questions. If the fund had/has trillions of dollars in it,
and the interest accrues on that…. and people are continuously putting money
into the fund…what do they mean it’s running out of money? That math ain’t mathing. Health of the Social Security
Fund

I Thought Social Security was Supposed to be
Untouched. This is the general
thought many people had concerning the Social Security Fund. Well, surprise!

The Big Mimic and Trick Private Insurance Companies
Perform pretending they are Social Security and Medicare. This last link is a bonus. I get hellah calls from companies asking about
my Social Security and Medicare. The
government actually need to do something about this. Many elders don’t understand the real Social
Security and Medicare programs—so you KNOW they get lost trying to navigate the
fake things companies are doing. In my
opinion, the companies should be heavily fined.
Maybe that will help with funding the Social Security Fund and solve
other related issues. Tricks Company Play to get your
Money—They are NOT Social Security.
I hope this was interesting to you and if it’s worth talking
about…talk about it. And VOTE for people
who will work to protect and ensure the longevity of the fund!
