The Thought of "Qualified Immunity" Should Loudly and Abruptly Go Away.

Qualified immunity is not law. And the thought of qualified immunity for law enforcement and other people who seemingly don’t know how to wield power should go away. Especially now.

More and more in today’s society people who have jobs that require them to handle some tiny bit of power seem not to know how to use it and and they violate people’s rights on a continuous basis.

Qualified Immunity was some “judicially created legal doctrine” that Supreme Court made up. But, The Supreme Court is not a governing body that makes laws--nor was it designed to be. So technically, rules that they create should not be considered as any type of law-- which they sometimes

are...especially in the current Supreme Court.

And like they say for many other things that regular citizens are concerned with “there are enough laws on the books to where we shouldn’t have to create additional laws” or rules to ensure that justice can be served. So I say the same for qualified immunity.

Police officers should do their jobs, knowing that there is no qualified immunity for them to be protected under and they can be subject to lawsuits just like everybody else. If they do it right, they should have nothing to worry about.  If they violate the public’s trust and safety—then they face Consequences and repercussions.

I think you would begin to see great change; and vast reductions of people’s lives being interrupted and rights being violated.

Yes we need good law enforcement, but we don’t need bullies with guns being protected by some rule the Supreme Court conjured up. 

And as far as the Supreme Court goes… I think they should be “elected by the people” as well—with term limits and the ability to impeach quickly if necessary… but that is a whole different story.
