Downsizing for Travel

So, I’ve been watching videos lately about packing for travel... I give up.  Why does everything have to be a science?  Why can’t you just pick a few things, and throw that shit in a bag?

I know, I know.  You might forget something that you need.   You don’t want to run out of something that might not be available where you’re going. You don’t want to have to buy anything when you get there.  And the list goes on and on.

That is one concept for packing.  The other is… try to travel light.

That’s the reason for this article.  I’ve been really thinking about taking “dinky” trips lately.  I’m older, I ain’t really got shit to do (lol!), and I feel a need to get out more.  I want to do things that are somewhat creative, but don’t cost a lot.

I want to start utilizing AMTRAK more, which I affectionately call meDIRTY Train. ๐Ÿ˜I could take a day trip up to Philadelphia and get a Philly cheese steak and come back.  Or, got to Washington D.C. or Baltimore, or any combination of things that might be fun and simple.  I just wish they had more routes.  Also, side note, did you know Amtrak was

be considered publicly owned?  So says the Googles…. Could you imagine taking rides all over the U.S. by train.  It could be possible with reinstalling more tracks across the country—or even by creating a system of land trains—with no tracks needed.  They don’t have to be as huge as the traditional version of the land train, like maybe the size of two Trailway Busses stuck together… but it would be cool. Anyway, We should be doing waaaaaayyyyyy more with it. AND DON’T let the private sector come back in and get it’s grubby hands on it after we do.  I digress.

So, back to the topic.  I’ve been working on scaling down my luggage to 1 backpack and 1 carry-on. That’s it.  When I tell you the process of elimination was a “scruggle”; that would be an understatement.

But then, I asked myself, “of all the things I used to pack and bring—what did I actually open and use?”  Answer: Not Much. Voila. Problem solved.

I carry my laptop, a few pair of boxers, several tees, a couple of quick-dry slacks, sweater, toiletries and a small array of computer cables and cords. Oh, and my pair of Minimalist Cross-trainers and I’m set.  Everything else we’ll have to make do or get when I get there.

I have decided that I want travel to be fun and exciting and I’m working my way toward that goal by ditching all the extra stuff that I have to keep up with and seldom if ever use.

So if you see me out there…don’t just me if you see me wearing the same fit –often.✌๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜  Happy Trails.
